During the COVID 19 pandemic, parents, teachers and children were forced to home-school. I was tasked to come up with a solution to a problem defined throughout my research into homeschooling during the pandemic.
The project consisted of two parts. Part 1, we did as a group, researching the users (parents, students and teachers). Finding out their needs and coming up with a solution, our solution was an online learning interface skoolbag. Part 2 was an independent project focused on the visual design of our solutions, how would the interface look and work.

We researched the topic of home schooling during the pandemic and interviewed 10 stakeholders, a mix of primary school parents and teachers. Patterns and similarities emerged through their answers and opinions, which we then narrowed this to 4 main needs.

We created 2 personas and journeys, one for the parent and one for the teacher. These helped us to further understand our users personally and what their day to day looks like.

To come up with our ideas we as a team put down all our quick ideas onto sticky notes, we then grouped them. We then did a quick vote for which idea we all thought was the best solution. Reward system, teaching and gamify were among our favorites.
As a team we decided we would create an online interface that would have a place for children to play, somewhere where parents and children can communicate with teachers directly, the ability to complete work and upload online, and have an online reward system to keep children engaged.

When designing the interface, I kept the pages simple to use yet fun to look at, with the aim to keep our primary school users engaged but not distracted. When thinking about how pages would look and work I referred to Jakob's Law, I set out to make the app look and work similarly to popular mobile interfaces such as apple.
